In addition to these, he has worked as a correspondent on “Good Morning America.” Did you know that Emeril has also been a professional chef for over 20 years?

Emeril got his start at cooking professionally with a job at a Portuguese bakery, crafting his expertise in making pastries and bread. After graduating from high school, he was offered a full scholarship to study music, but turned it down in order to study cooking. Emeril graduated from Johnson and Wales University with an undergraduate degree in 1978, and in turn received an honorary doctorate. Soon after, he was practicing great cooking at a handful of fine restaurants in New York, Boston, and Philadelphia.

He’s also written fifteen cookbooks including, most recently, “Farm to Fork: Cooking Local, Cooking Fresh,” “Emeril 20-40-60: Fresh Food Fast,” and “Emeril at the Grill.” Six of Emeril’s cookbooks have gone on to become New York Times Bestsellers. Emeril’s cookbooks often cover topics important to many modern chefs like getting fresh, local food and produce as well as cooking on a budget.

Over his years working as a chef, Emeril’s restaurants have received multiple awards and honors. In his first year of business at Emeril’s New Orleans in 1990, the restaurant was chosen as “Best Restaurant of the Year,” in Esquire Magazine. Since then, he’s recieved the James Beard Award for “Best Southeast Chef,” GQ Magazine’s “Chef of the Year” award, People Magazine’s “Most Intriguing Person of the Year,” and The Food Network’s South Beach Wine and Food Festival “Lifetime Achievement Award.”
