Riedel GlasswareRiedel has been making wine glasses since the 1950’s. Their first breakthrough was in the 1970’s as a result of working with the Italian sommelier board to select glasses that enhanced the flavor of various wine varietals, such as Cabernet, Chardonnay, etc. Riedel made a variety of shapes and sizes of wine glass then the council would, by majority rule, select the glass which made that varietal taste the best. Riedel wine glasses are crafted in Bavaria from leaded crystal. Fully leaded crystal gives Riedel wine glasses the brilliance, shine, lustre and wonderful “ping” sound of top quality crystal. The lead used in the Riedel glasses is inactive and used primarily for aesthetics. Riedel recommends hand washing for all of their wine glasses, though the Tyrol glass style is dishwasher safe. Riedel continues to innovate and impress the wine world and wine lovers with wine glass styles such as the Riedel Tyrol and Riedel Vitis sometimes known as Riedel Grape, as well as the strikingly beautiful Riedel decanters, including the Amadeo Decanter, created in honor of Mozart’s 150th birthday. |
