First off, MetroKitchen ships fast and I received my order in a couple days with normal shipping. I had an issue with the order, which MetroKitchen fixed immediately.
This set is a great starter set. There is plenty of options for collecting the knives you will use most often, which is not the case for a full 11 piece set.
The Global knives live up to the hype. They are amazingly sharp and in my eyes, a work of art to look at. When you hold these knives, whether it is a chef's knife or a smaller paring knife, you can feel the quality. I have big hands and I would say the handles are a bit small, but not to the point where I feel I cannot grip them safely.
This starter set represents a good deal through MetroKitchen. If you do a sum of the parts, the knife block alone is close to $150. With the current free paring knife offer, you get 4 knives and the block $300. As noted before, this set gives you the chance to expand the collection to the knives you may need the most, especially if it is a specialty knife (ie; fillet, butcher, tomato slicer etc).

The reps from Metrokitchen were very polite/professional. VERY FAST DELIVERY--which is always HUGE!
As for the knives--they are unbelieveable. Insanely sharp..and sleek looking. I love how they are one piece as all knives should be. No grit or grime can get caught up..the dimples in the handle make for a nice grip. I'm really into the size and light weight of these beauties. Completely happy with GLOBAL--lets face it--THE JAPANESE know how to make extraordinary knives!
Stunning knife set

About the service:
OK, so my order arrived a few days ago (on time) and I have to say the entire experience has been a pleasant one. I had to ship it to my office (expensive shipments require daytime signature) and customer service had no problem getting the delivery switched over... and the OTHER THING is that Metrokitchen's customer service is amazing, you call the phone number... and a REAL person picks up the phone, no dialing extensions or waiting in a queue (for me at least)
About the product:
The knives shipped in the same box, but individually packaged, which is nice if you keep the stuff (like i do) to move eventually. They look amazing and have an adequate out of box sharpness, but I'll probably hand sharpen them some more. The only thing to note is that the roast carver in this set isn't the best way to get sammiches sliced, for that you'll probably want the bread knife http://www.metrokitchen.com/product/GL-G-9
