The Shun Blue Steel 5.5 inch Petty knife is a combination of a utility knife and a paring knife. It's a good choice for a variety of cutting or basic paring tasks. We like its flexibility and, of course, its serious sharpness!

Normally, carbon steel, or blue steel, blades are very time-consuming to maintain. Blue Steel knives from Shun are easy to maintain because the carbon steel in Shun Blue is completely covered by 2 layers of rust-resistant stainless steel. Caring for Shun Blue as you would any other high quality Shun knife.
The Blue Steel Petty knife from Shun is made in Japan of Japanese carbon steel. As with all Shun knives, Blue Steel has a lifetime warranty and free lifetime sharpening.

You'll so appreciate Shun blue steel 5.5 inch petty knife.
  • Its sharpness is a result of an extremely strong carbon steel core sandwiched between 2 layers of stainless steel.
  • Rust-resistant stainless steel exterior makes for easier cleaning. Normally carbon or blue steel requires special maintenance such as oiling. Shun blue steel knives do not!
  • Use this Menkiri knife for chopping herbs, small vegetables and, of course, for making noodles like a Japanese master!
  • Lifetime warranty from Shun with normal use and proper care.
  • Made in Japan

  • Free lifetime sharpening from Shun. Pay only for shipping; $5 for the first knife, $2 for each additional knife. Please print and complete this form and ship to Shun with the knives you'd like to have sharpened.

    • Blade measures 5.5 inches long; handle measures 5-1/4 inches long; total knife measures 10-3/4 inches long

    • Extremely sharp edge because the inner layer of the knife is made from blue or carbon steel
    • Extra strong and durable because of an additional 2 layers of stainless steel that completely enrobe the core carbon steel blade.

    • Long lasting Pakkawood handle is crafted from resin and white birch, the hardest wood currently available.

    • MetroKitchen.com recommends washing your knives by hand and immediately drying them. Do not let your knives soak in water.
    • Avoid cleaners containing bleach or citrus extracts, as they may stain the surface of your knives.
    • For longer lasting knives, cut on a wooden cutting board. Cutting on hard surfaces such as stone, metal or glass quickly dulls blades.
    • To maintain a sharper cutting edge, use a sharpening steel, preferably each time after using your knives.
    • It's best to store your Shun knife so the edge and your fingers are protected, preferably in a block or in-drawer knife tray.
    • We suggest using a meat cleaver when you need to cut through bone, otherwise you can damage your knife blade.
    • Shun knives don't need frequent sharpening because they are made from 32 extremely durable layers of stainless steel.
    • Lifetime limited warranty from Shun with normal use and proper care.
