History
Le Cordon Bleu has educated some of the world's greatest chefs for over 100 years. Founded in Paris in 1895, Le Cordon Bleu is now present in 15 countries and has more than 18,000 students worldwide.
Le Cordon Bleu (or Blue Ribbon) has a rich history in France. King Henry III bestowed "Le Cordon Bleu" to the members of the Order of the Holy Spirit, which he created in 1575. By the 18th century, the ribbon was identified with grand banquets held by French royalty. Today it symbolizes excellence, especially in the culinary arts.
The school's history begins at the end of the 19th century when Marthe Distel, a French Journalist, began a weekly cooking magazine known as "La Cuisiniere Cordon Bleu." The magazine's popularity prompted Distel to offer free cooking classes. Soon, Le Cordon Bleu opened its doors to students and offered its first class on January 14, 1896.
Today, with over 25 schools, Le Cordon Bleu is identified worldwide with innovation, tradition, and expertise in the culinary arts.
